What is high temperature foam tape made of?

High-temperature foam adhesive tape mainly consists of the following foam substrate + adhesive layer + release material (adhesive backing material) several parts.

Foam base material

Polyurethane (PU) foam: This is a common foam material. It has good elasticity, flexibility and cushioning properties. The polyurethane molecular chain contains soft and hard segments, with the soft segments providing elasticity and the hard segments providing strength and stability. This foam is able to withstand certain pressures and impacts and maintains its structural integrity even in high temperature environments, typically withstanding long-term temperatures of 80 - 120°C. The foam can be used in automotive interiors, for example. It is effective in reducing vibration and noise in automotive interior applications, for example.

Acrylate foam: Acrylate foam is weather resistant and chemically stable. Its structure is a polymer network of acrylate monomers polymerized with many tiny bubbles inside, which give the foam good elasticity and thermal insulation properties. It can maintain stable performance in a wide range of temperatures, in some of the higher requirements for weather resistance of outdoor electronic equipment fixed in the application of more, short-term temperature resistance can reach 130 - 150 ℃ or so.
Silicone rubber foam: silicone rubber foam is a high-performance foam material. Its main chain by the silicon - oxygen (Si - O) bond composition, the bond energy of this chemical bond is high, so that the silicone rubber foam has excellent high-temperature performance, long-term temperature resistance can reach 180 - 200 ℃. Adhesive layer

Acrylic Adhesives: After modification, acrylic adhesives can be used for high temperature foam adhesive tapes. By adding special cross-linking agents and heat-resistant additives, its high-temperature resistance is improved. This adhesive has good adhesion to a variety of materials, relatively fast curing speed, and can form a strong bond between the foam and the sticky material. For example, in the fixing of electronic components, acrylic adhesives can ensure a tight connection between the foam adhesive tape and the components and circuit boards.
Silicone adhesive: Silicone adhesive is a commonly used adhesive for high temperature foam adhesive tape. Its molecular chain contains silicone oxygen bond (Si - O), so that the adhesive has excellent resistance to high and low temperature performance, can be - 60 ℃ to 200 ℃ above the wide temperature range to maintain good flexibility and adhesion. Silicone adhesives also have good chemical stability, water, oxygen, ultraviolet light and other strong resistance, suitable for a variety of harsh environments, such as outdoor construction and decoration of the adhesive materials.

Release materials (adhesive backing materials)

Silicone Release Paper / Film: Silicone release material is coated with a layer of silicone oil on the surface of paper or film. The silicone oil has a very low surface energy, which allows the adhesive tape to be easily peeled off its surface when not in use. Silicone release papers are relatively low cost and are commonly used in applications where the release properties are not particularly demanding, while silicone release films have better transparency and temperature resistance and are suitable for products that require high precision processing or have high cosmetic requirements, such as the fixing of electronic display components. They are usually able to withstand temperatures of 120 - 150°C, ensuring that they will not stick to the adhesive during normal use and storage.
